The following was written by Elva:

I remember as I was growing up my father’s two families were congenial. Two of the boys of the first family, (Will and Theron) spent a lot of time with us, before and after they were married. I spent a lot of my summers at Father’s and “Aunt Millies”. I had a half sister one year younger than I, we spent a lot of time together. Dad’s business was in Logan, Utah. He would take me with him in the summer, until he passed away [in 1914]; but I still went to Logan, in the summers and stay[ed] at my half brother Isaac’s home. He was father’s oldest son. He and his brother Wesley were dentists and took care of my teeth. Wesley spent a lot of time at our house. Dolly, a daughter of “Aunt Millie” was always so good to Mother. After Dad’s death, both families were back and forth and we had our family reunions Dad had nineteen children in all, and I am still in touch with some of the family.

NOTE: There were 12 children born between 1878 and 1905 to Isaac SMITH and Harriet Camilla Ensign. Their children who had died before this 1908 family portrait were Martin Luther SMITH (1881-1884), Mary Camilla SMITH (1886-1899), Theodore Roosevelt SMITH (1903-1904). Isaac SMITH also had a second family with 7 children born between 1895 and 1913 to he and Elizabeth FUHRIMAN.

Dr. Isaac Samuel SMITH - Utah Since Statehood

Isaac Samuel SMITH known as 'Ike' is the oldest brother of George Ensign SMITH.
'Ika' Smith is the Uncle of Camilla SMITH.

ISAAC S. SMITH, D.D.S.

Dr. Isaac [Samuel] Smith, engaged in the practice of dentistry in Logan and associated in the work of the profession with Dr. A. W. Ensign [Adam Wesley ENSIGN brother of Harriet Camilla ENSIGN SMTIH], was born in Brigham, Utah, in 1878, a son of Isaac [SMITH] and Harriet Camilla (Ensign) Smith, of whom mention is made on another page of this work.

Dr. Smith acquired his early education in the public schools of Logan and afterward attended the Brigham Young College and the Utah agricultural College, in which he completed his high school work. He then filled a mission to the southern states, where he labored for a year, after which he filled a mission in England covering fourteen months. Upon his return to his native land he entered the Chicago College of Dental Surgery, in which he studied for three years, being graduated with the class of 1903. He afterward returned to Logan, where he opened an office, and after practicing alone for eight years, was joined in a partnership by Dr. W. H. Petty, with whom he was associated for two years. He afterward again practiced alone for two years, on the expiration of which period he was joined by Dr. Ensign and the partnership relation between them has since been maintained. Dr. Smith keeps in close touch with the trend of modern professional thought and progress, is quick to adopt the most improved processes of the profession, and his work is ever of a scientific and also of a satisfactory character. He served for a period of four years, from 1913 to 1917, as a member of the Utah state board of dental examiners to which position he was appointed by Governor William Spry.

In 1904 Dr. Smith was married to Miss Lula Yates, a daughter of Frederick and Sarah Yates, natives of England, whence they came to Utah, arriving in this state at an early day. Dr. and Mrs. Smith have become parents of five children; Luther, Virginia, Ruth, Norman and Lula. The family is one of prominence in the social circles of Logan and Dr. Smith has attained a most creditable position in the ranks of his chosen profession.
