Margaret Worley Sanford, age 100, died October 27, 1995 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born March 16, 1895 in Logan, Utah to William Worley and Alice Pearson Worley. She married Ralph Brown Sanford on August 22, 1923 in Logan. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He died August 23, 1942. She was reared and educated in Logan. She attended both Utah State Agricultural College and Brigham Young College in Logan, where she served as accompanist for the orchestra and chorus. During that same period she played the piano for the silent movies at the Lyric Theater. Immediately after college she went to New York City for intensive piano study with the noted European pianist, Alberto Jonas. When she returned to Utah, she served as music supervisor for the Cache County School System. In addition to being an accomplished pianist, she was a talented soprano vocalist. Her concerts, mainly opera arias, were positively reviewed in the Logan newspapers. After her marriage she lived in Morgan and Ogden where her husband was principal of Morgan, Weber and Ogden High Schools. They did graduate work together at the University of California at Berkeley where at one time she had 90 piano pupils in the Berkeley City Schools. After her husband's death, she taught in the Ogden City Schools for 19 years. When she retired she moved to Salt Lake City.

She was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in numerous leadership and teaching positions on both the ward and stake levels. She was a member of the Utah Retired Teachers Association and the Utah Daughters of Pioneers. Her life was one of music, beauty - especially gardens and flowers, church and family.

She is survived by two daughters, Claire Richards (husband, David W. Richards) and Helen Lindsay, both of Salt Lake City; two grandsons, David S. Richards and William R. Richards (wife, Ann Withrow Richards); two great-grandchildren, Kate Withrow Richards and William James Richards; sister-in-law, Susie Sanford Cook. She was preceded in death by four brothers, six sisters.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 30, 1995, 11 a.m., at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple. Friends may call one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Ogden City Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.

The family expresses sincere appreciation to the staff of St. Joseph's Villa.
