Henry I Sinclair Earl of Orkney

Henry I Sinclair, Earl of Orkney, Lord of Roslin (c 1345-c 1400) "admiral of the seas" a Scottish and a Norwegian nobleman. Known for the legend of him discovering North America 100 years before Christopher Columbus. 

Legedary Voyage:"Henry Sinclair is alleged to have left the Orkneys in early April 1397 or 1398 with 12 or 13 ships and journeyed to what is now Newfoundland and Nova Scotia. Most of the ships then returned to the Orkneys; but two remained in the New World, journeyed on to Massachusetts and Rhode Island, and returned the next year." (Robert Sewell Web Account)
